JEI is a non-governmental human rights organisation that supports networks of urban poor communities towards greater participation in processes of urban planning and governance, including the Nigerian Slum / Informal Settlement Federation (Federation) and the Physically Challenged Empowerment Initiative (PCEI), among others. JEI trains and supports a network of community-based paralegals who document and respond to human rights violations arising in their communities -- from land grabs and forced evictions, to wrongful arrest and extortion, among many other case types. The organisation is composed of professionals from different disciplines, including law, urban planning, creative media, policy advocacy, and beyond, all dedicated to creating more just and inclusive cities. JEI has offices in Lagos (Nigeria), Port Harcourt (Nigeria), and Cotonou (Benin).
